Jackson Gillman, Stand-Up Chameleon

“Stand-up Chameleon” Jackson Gillman delights audiences of all ages through his many talents as songsmith, movement artist and storyteller. He’s always glad to customize his wide-ranging repertoire and tie into current curriculum. While show themes vary, they are all highly visual, energetic and interactive. Song, dance, mime, and/or sign language might be incorporated into his participatory theater - whatever works best to bring any audience along for a rollicking ride into his wildly imaginative worlds of creative adventure. One of four recipients of National Storytelling Network's Circle of Excellence award in 2020.
Many of his educational Songs & Stories for a Small Planet reflect his background in ecology. Shows are easily adjusted for a wide range of ages, and include:
Riot in the Garden - laugh and learn as we get down and earthy, celebrating the joys of gardening in interactive song, comedy and story;
Whales, Octopi & Sharks, Oh My! – a musical dive into marine science;
Nature in Action, Story, and Song - an educational romp on the wild and crazy side of natural science;
BUGS! - Doodlebugs, spiders, ants and other crawlies are featured in this low-life revue;
On a Wing and a Song - a birds-eye view of the seasons; includes nest-building, hatching, feeding, learning to fly, and migration. Ideal for preK-primary grades with poems, stories, fingerplays, simple sign language and lots of participatory movement;
A Family Cabaret - This comedy/music revue is ideal for an intergenerational audience. A fun look at daily rituals, from wake-up to bedtime;
Dinosaur Daze - a program which addresses anti-bullying and social acceptance, fancifully disguised as a prehistoric comedy with dinosaurs and dragons;
Moon Crazy - Put on your imagination caps and blast off with Jackson on his lunar adventures. Captivating songs and story, including Frank Asch's Happy Birthday, Moon;
The Magic of Rudyard Kipling: "Just So" - sprightly, faithful interpretations of these “best beloved” classics; received Best Educational award of the 130 shows from all over the world in the 2014 United Solo Theater Festival;
The Man Who Planted Hope - an inspiring account of reforestation in Provence, adapted from the story by Jean Giono;
The Dancing Man - lively, interactive songs and stories to move and groove with;
Levity in Motion - childhood flights of fancy in mime, song and story;
Halloween Silly Willies - highly interactive show with the holiday's typical ingredients, but all in light-hearted fun.
Autumn Wonders, or Winter Wonders - a rich tapestry of the colors, sounds and smells in a heartwarming, story and song-filled celebration of the season;
Spring into Action & Song - celebrates spring in all of its flowery, song-filled wonder. Everyone becomes worms, flowers, birds, sun, rain and more in this playful romp.
